ETHIOPIA MAKES 101 FOR WORLDPOLY
06.08.2014
Ethiopia is Africa's oldest independent country and it is the second largest in terms of population. Ethiopia also represents the 101st country using Worldpoly’s butt fusion equipment.
Polyethylene pipelines are being commissioned in Ethiopia to improve the country’s short and long term resilience to drought, irrigation for crops and livestock as well as power production.
Many of us know of the unyielding drought, famine, and war that brought millions to the brink of starvation in the 1970s and 1980s. Devastation continued when in 2011, two consecutively missed rainy seasons precipitated the worst drought in East Africa in 60 years. Full recovery from the drought’s effects is not expected for some time, however long-term strategies by the national government and development agencies are offering sustainable results for both the short and long term.
Ethiopia is often ironically referred to as the "water tower" of Eastern Africa because of the 14 major rivers that pour off the high tableland. It also has the greatest water reserves in Africa, but has few irrigation systems currently in place to use it. Worldpoly is proud to be associated with these works through the supply of butt welding equipment, and is keenly looking forward to this stunning and resilient country making the most of the available resources and a positive future for the country and its people.
